Transportation Committee (TC) Minutes of 2-8-24

Next meeting: 8:30 am, Thursday, March 14, 2024 

Present: Mary Day Mordecai (chair), Barbara Watkins, Ned Hulbert, Don Scott, Erin Hammerstedt, Earl Horn        Absent: Steve LaMears (Police Chief), Alison Weber

  • Update on MAST grant final reports:
  • 2020 Grant: final report has been submitted to Henry Underwood of SWRPC
  • 2021 Grant: final submission date extended to December 31, 2024. Final report will include:

-Traffic study rescheduled to be done in May by SWRPC

-Chief has provided motor vehicle stops data

–Articles have been placed in Common Threads (CT) – including latest CT edition

-Website and Social media presence for School and Town website: Erin will write something for each site on school radars (see recent CT article to reference main points on school radar)

-Community Conversations – not needed as not done on regular basis anymore

  • Discussion of candidates for membership on the committee 
  • Agreed that Complete Streets Orientation will be conducted for TC old/new Members by SWRPC
  • Discussion of draft of Working Agreements for Harrisville TC 
  • Long-term Goals for TC

TC agreed to have longer discussion to design a Community Conversation that enables a good cross-section of residents to give input on recommendation for the main TC projects fornext 3-5 years.

TC needs to determine how to entice enough residents into a conversation that develops a good prioritized list of next steps for the TC. Is increased traffic volume one of the big potential topics, with which TC could frame a conversation?

  • Status of Church St/Alley Project

Don reported on preparation for project details to be voted upon at 2024 Town Meeting.

  • Report on Conservation Committee meeting with Harrisville Trails to discuss town rail trail improvement project along with separate pocket park

ConCom will apply $18K to trail improvement work. Another group may volunteer some money for the pocket park.
