Meeting Schedule: Unless otherwise posted, the Select Board meets at Town Hall, 705 Chesham Road, on Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm, with the exception of the last week of the month, when it meets on Friday mornings at 9:00 am. Please call the office to be added to the agenda, which is generally posted on Monday afternoons.

About the Select Board
The Select Board is the executive, managerial, and administrative body that carries out the votes of Town Meeting. It has only the authority granted to it by state law or by Town Meeting.

In addition to specifically assigned roles and powers, the Board has the broad duty to “manage the prudential affairs of the Town” (RSA 41:8). Most of this work is carried out through simple majority votes of the board, which are often limited to single questions or actions. (For example, appointing an official or approving a contract.) These actions are documented in meeting minutes or authenticated by members’ signatures.

The board may enact policies, which prescribe and document general, formal, uniform, and permanent rules for officials and employees. These are generally created through the Board’s “prudential affairs” authority. (e.g., Personnel Policy or Recycling Policy).  The Select Board also may enact Ordinances, which, generally, are adopted by the Board pursuant to a specific statute, which grants authority and mandates the procedure for adoption – e.g., Town Beach ordinances, parking ordinances, speed limits, etc.  Such ordinances are different from the land use Zoning Ordinances, which are drafted by the Planning Board and adopted through vote at Town Meeting.

The Select Board consists of three members who are elected for 3-year terms on a rotating basis (one seat per year) via official ballot at Town Meeting.
