Minutes of Transportation Committee (TC) Meeting, May 6, 2026

Next meeting: 8:30 – 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 3, ­­2026

Present: Mary Day Mordecai (chair), Russ Cobb, Ned Hulbert, Roxanne Karter, John Knight, Claire Lingham, Kully Mindemann, Matt Perry (Police Chief), Don Scott

Agenda:

  1. Report from Mary Day on TAP meeting of May 4
    1. Regarding Lisa Stedman, SWRPC staff member for transportation: TC agreed to explore Lisa’s coming to speak to us and to Community Center staff, if feasible.
    2. TC also agreed to ask J.B. Mack and/or Henry Underwood to attend an upcoming meeting to discuss pedestrian safety in the village.
    3. TC agreed to support SWRPC’s application for the “Safe Streets for All” competitive grant program and to ask Select Board to endorse TC’s support letter. 
  1. Collection of data from speed radars on Main St., Route 137 and Wells Memorial School Zone
    1. Matt and Earl Horn will work on summarizing recent data, esp. traffic volumes and speeds. Ryan Whitworth may be a tech expert – Mary Day will ask Ryan. 
  1. Traffic flow issues at Community Center, General Store and PO
    1. John updated TC on construction of Community Center: June 21 grand opening.
    2. The Center has been functioning in “soft opening mode” for past couple of months.
    3. John and other members of the TC would like to see removal of the “30-Minute Parking” signs in front of Community Center to ease parking around there and General Store area; Matt will explore this further before TC makes a formal recommendation.
    4. Roxanne will organize TC traffic observations soon. She will be in touch with TC members.
  1. Report from John on Canal railing and Trip Hammer Shop renovation
    1. Group addressing canal railing (in library area) to meet soon – John will update.
    2. No update on Trip Hammer shop – construction to start 2027 once funding complete. 
  1. Parabolic mirror at Willard Hill/Main St. intersection
    1. TC agrees that mirror is needed (across from Stage Rd) but needs to be tested for feasibility first. Russ, Don to test and to report at next TC meeting. 
  1. Discussion of walking path through village
    1. TC reviewed discussions from last meeting: lane widths; possibility of moving road over a few feet.

Don will investigate pedestrian safety from Mill#1 to the original proposed cross-walk and report on this at next TC meeting

  1. Mary Day reported on her recent discussion with Frank Linenbringer (our DOT district engineer) about our options and overall approach. Frank is willing to be in dialogue with TC about suggestions coming from the town.
  2. Updates from John and Claire on AI assisted drawings – they plan to do this and report at next TC meeting. Concurrently, Mary Day will ask Greg Bakos what it would cost for his team to do a visual resident-friendly picture of the village walking path.
  3. Updates from John on ledge shearing: BC is the local construction firm working on the General Store/Community Center projects. John should know within next couple weeks about BC’s availability, recommendations and costs. 

7) Claire will check with Alison Weber to see if TC can share its know-how and DOT connections for Dublin School’s cross-walk need.  It is a real safety concern TC might help with.
