Highway Department– The SB met with the Road Agent to discuss the Highway Department budget for 2021 including estimates for road material, equipment maintenance, and potential new equipment, including a screen for gravel. Regarding plans for road projects, the Road Agent noted the only road planned for repair is the portion of Mason Road east/southeast of Willard Hill that was not repaired in 2020. This has been conveyed to the Transportation Committee. Mr. Tarr added that, if any additional roadwork is planned, he also will discuss with the committee.
Vachon Clukay– The SB met with the town’s auditor, Matt Murray of Vachon Clukay, to review the 2020 financial report. Mr. Murray addressed matters related to the NH retirement system, rules of the Government Accounting Standards Board, changes to accounting software in 2020, the challenges of underfunding, restricted funds, and highway block grant funds. The board noted it is ready to receive the firm’s final copy of the audit.
Police Department– The SB discussed the staffing plan for moving forward in light of Police Chief’s retirement and will meet with the Police Chief next week regarding the transition.
Budget items– The board noted the expense for disposal of waste oil may be encumbered. The board will follow up with Mr. Cady to obtain a written estimate. In addition the board will explore further with the Road Agent the possible purchase of a used screen in the amount of $10,000.
The SB signed the pay warrant in the amount of $22,558.87.
SB Meeting Schedule– The board will hold January 2021 meetings as follows: Tuesday, January 5, at 9:00 am; Thursday, January 7, at 7:00 pm; Tuesday, January 12, at 9:00 am; Tuesday, January 19, at 9:00 am; Thursday, January 21, at 7:00 pm and Thursday January 28, at 7:00 pm. The first Budget Hearing is tentatively scheduled for the January 28 meeting.
The board then continued its meeting to Thursday, December 31, at 9:00 am at town offices. Jay Jacobs and Andrea Hodson were present. Kathy Scott was absent. The board members met to finalize financial encumbrances for the year 2020 in the amount of $64,400.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 am. The next meeting of the Select Board is Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 9:00 am at town offices.
