Sesquicentennial Committee Descriptions

 Committee of Arrangements: This committee is responsible for the planning and oversight including all financials for all committees. All committees will report to the COA on a monthly basis. The COA will hold monthly meetings to review progress and will hold an “all committee” meeting every other month with one representative attending from each committee. The committee will work closely with the Town Depts to coordinate the events. They will make all applications to the State as necessary and will sign all contracts to hire entertainment etc. The COA committee will report to the Town of Harrisville Selectboard.

Parade Committee:  This committee will be responsible for soliciting participants for the parade to include floats, marching bands, antique cars, firetrucks, civic organizations, girl scouts, boy scouts etc. The committee will organize the procession and coordinate this with the COA. The day of the event the committee will be responsible for the line up and spacing of each participant and give them direction during the procession. The committee will report monthly to the COA with their progress. Estimated time for the parade is 1 hour. COMMITTEE CHAIR: SUSAN WELLER – swellerberk@gmail.com

Fundraising/Sponsorship Committee:  This committee is responsible for all fundraising and sponsorships to raise money to offset the costs of the event. They will be responsible for soliciting sponsorships and ads to include local newspapers, shopper news, sandwich boards, posters, viewing stand advertisements, programs etc. This committee will work closely with the Advertising/Marketing Committee to create sponsorship ads.  The committee will report monthly to the COA with their progress. Advertising/Marketing Committee:  This committee will be responsible for creation of all ads and design for promotional items to be sold to the public, i.e.: T-shirts, hats, stickers, mugs and other ideas the committee has. The committee will be responsible for updating the 100thCentennial Commemorative Book to make it a living document, adding new articles, pictures etc. over the past 50 years working closely with the Commemorative Book Committee.  This committee will work closely with Fundraising and Sponsorship Committee. Signs Committee:  This committee will work with all committees finding out what signs are needed. i.e.: parking, bathrooms, parade route etc. This committee will then work with the advertising and marketing committee to have the signs created. Once created committee is responsible for pick up and distribution to the appropriate committees. This committee will report to the COA monthly on their progress. Commemorative Book Committee:  This committee will gather photos, stories etc. from the Centennial Celebration through 2020 to add to the Sesquicentennial Commemorative Book. This committee will work closely with the Advertising and Marketing Committee to coordinate setup. Suggestions for the committee, to work with our local schools where Harrisville students attend (Wells Memorial, Mountain Shadows, The Well School) to contribute stories and interview residents of Harrisville who have grown up here in the past 50 years.  This committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. THIS COMMITTEE HAS COMPLETED THE BOOK!! MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COPY!

Chicken BBQ Committee:  This committee will be comprised of the HFD members and volunteers from the community to work with the firemen to organize and execute the Chicken BBQ. The committee will also work with the Aldworth Manor to coordinate set up time and place.  The BBQ will be held on Sunday afternoon from 1-3pm at Aldworth Manor. The committee is responsible for the sale of tickets (300), set up, food prep, serving line and clean up. The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. Library Committee Book Sale & 50thDedication:  This committee will work with the library to coordinate the book sale and come up with ideas to celebrate the 50thanniversary of the library opening. This dedication will take place on Friday evening. The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. COMMITTEE CHAIR: KAREN COTELESO – kcoteleso@gmail.com

“Harrisville Weavings” and Centennial Viewings Committee:  This committee will collect movie clips from the centennial celebration and convert them to CD format for the viewing. They will also convert the “Harrisville Weavings” VCR to CD format for the viewing. They will create a schedule, signage and advertising for the viewings that will run throughout the evening on Friday at St. Dennis Church. Children’s Games Committee:  This committee is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the children’s games to be held on Saturday from 10:00-12:30. This will include coordinating the children’s entertainment, i.e.: Jason Purdy, the magician and a Clown (that makes balloon characters). The committee will be responsible for all set up and clean up.  The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. COMMITTEE CHAIR: RANAE O’NEIL – ranae74@msn.com

Vendor Committee:  This committee will be led by Jenny Foreman and will coordinate the solicitation of all crafters and food vendors for Saturday’s events. The committee will be responsible to stake our vendor spaces, collect vendor fees (suggested $25.00 for a single and $40.00 for a double) booth space, and direction during the day of the event. The committee will work closely with the Parking Committee as Parking for all vendors will be in the cemetery. All vendors are to be in no later than 7:30am and will not be able to leave until 4:00pm. The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. Dedication Committee:  The committee will be responsible for coming up with ideas for a dedication ceremony immediately following the parade to be held at the viewing stand. Ideas to include: firefighters, police, veterans, EMT’s, HHI Incorporation Anniversary and The Boston Cane to our oldest resident. The committee will coordinate and solicit all speakers and awards presentations for the dedication. The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. Village Street Dance and Harrisville Beach Fireworks Activities: This committee will be responsible for the decorating and set up for the Village Street Dance on Saturday evening. They will coordinate with the Food Trucks (Zoe’s Pizza has accepted) and Band for set up. The committee will be responsible for clean-up on Saturday night following the dance. This committee will also come up with ideas for activities to be held at the Town Beach on Sunday evening prior to the fireworks. Vendors for Beach suggestions are: Kona Ice and/or Ice Cream Truck. The committee will work closely with the band for set up. The committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. COMMITTEE CHAIR: RANAE O’NEIL – ranae74@msn.com

Clean-up Committee:  This committee is responsible for ensuring all clean-up is implemented following each event to include trash is being emptied and bags are being replaced as needed throughout the day on Saturday. At end of events, all signs are picked up, trash removed, and picked up and recycle bins. The committee will be responsible to reserve porta-potties for the event and make sure that the town porta-potty has been emptied before and during the event if needed for Sunday evenings Fireworks. (Schedule a Sunday morning cleaning) The committee will need to coordinate with the dump for trash disposal. This committee will report to the COA monthly with their progress. Parking Committee:  This committee is responsible for all parking on Saturday working with the Highway Department and Police Department. This includes set up of all parking signs and organizing all parking attendants. The committee will coordinate and work closely with the Vendor Committee.
